What use a Conservation Order?

A sad day for the Rangitata River.
The granting of a further 10m3 of water for irrigation purposes from the Rangitata river WILL have a profound effect on the river despite what all the so called "experts" said in the submission process. And shame on you Environment Canterbury for once again disregarding the overwhelming environmental evidence and allowing this decision to be made.

Does this sign at the Rangitata River mouth mean anything? Obviously not.

this is terrible. I moved to New Zealand 18 years ago, and only have found the real New Zealand since I moved again to from Auckland to Christchurch. The environment is such a great advantage agains most other countries in the world. However, I also learnt where I live (Rolleston) there used to be a great river for fishing and is now gone. This is very sad. I love fishing.

I really don't want same thing happen again. You guys are doing good work. Hope this will kill another river.
